The Egypt Series (Private Commission)

Egypt I, II and III were created as a private commission. This series explores the concepts of freedom, migration, and place by transforming historical cartography into delicate, kinetic forms.

Using digital archival prints of vintage maps of Egypt, the geography of the region is completely re-imagined. By hand-cutting the maps into the silhouettes of native birds, the artwork liberates the land from its borders, allowing it to take flight. The collection features one grand centerpiece measuring 152.4 cm by 91.44 cm, supported by two 61 cm square panels, the birds are raised on pins so they interact dynamically with the light in the room.
