My latest newsletter is out and it's all about surrendering when things go wrong.

I was in Glasgow for the weekend, due to travel back on Monday afternoon. But the Universe had other plans.

I didn't make it out of Scotland before the train stopped and we sat and waited for many hours before returning to Glasgow.

It could have been an annoying and frustrating afternoon. But I chose to enjoy it instead. There was nothing I could do so why not surrender.

I was also travelling with my niece @elbrewster_ which also helped.

At the fiddly point of a commission, I can’t quite get the feeling right on this one at the minute. I’ve been faffing for hours with it and still haven’t got it right. Fingers crossed it will come together soon

The thing I love about painting the most is playin

The thing I love about painting the most is playing around with paint. I love combining different paints, inks and materials together to see what happens.

The joy of happy accidents and things going "wrong" is what keeps me coming back for me.

I love the alchemy and exploration that painting gives. I don't often know what's going to happen or how things are going to turn out. I enjoy not knowing. It's an act of surrender.

I often leave a painting wet over night and when I come back in the morning it's changed completely.

You can see some recent works in progress here. The textures and colours are so juicy and exciting. Nothing is off limits really.

Currently I'm experimenting with glitter, sand and other gritty materials. Who knows where that will go.

I love the freedom that painting allows.

My work is about exploring feelings and emotions.

My work is about exploring feelings and emotions. It’s about seeking and searching. It’s messy, emotional, free.

It’s about my transformation, about the breakdown of who I was in order to become who I am. It’s about putting aside the armour that I had been wearing, or perhaps the dissolving of that armour. It’s physical and visceral. It's about my menopause journey and the transition/transformation I experienced.

Each painting goes through layers of transformation, each one building on the next. Traces of earlier layers are visible and they lay the foundations for the final painting.

I start with text that transforms and disappears like a residue of thoughts or scars that we all carry. Some thoughts linger and for who we are and some are more fleeting, gone before we can capture them.

I’m always playing games when I’m painting, trying to capture my thoughts and feelings on the canvas. It’s not an intellectual exercise, it’s very much a feeling process. I’m mining my emotions, digging deep, exploring and bringing forth what’s on the inside
