15 Feb The year of the Monkey
When I started making my monkeys in 2014 I had no idea the 2016 was the year of the monkey. I know I should follow my Chinese horoscopes more carefully but somehow something else always comes up!
The Monkey is also my sign so it all felt too perfect and too exciting not to celebrate. I first made the monkeys for my exhibition, Personal Territories, in Switzerland (you can read more about it here and here).
It’s taken me a while to really know what to do with them, as they were quite a departure being monkeys and working in metal is still a new thing for me.
I’m happy with them now and have been working on some new ones, which seem to have been taking ages to get right, but I know it’ll be worth it.
At the moment there are 3 of them and they’re all made from acid etched stainless steel, which I then gild with Dutch gold. They are framed in beautiful black box frames. They are 20 x 30 cm and are limited editions of 20, each one signed by the artist and are available in my shop here.
