A Journey Into the Unknown
So here’s the thing, I’ve started making some new work (see My Tragedy here), which I’ve been sharing on instagram (follow me here). It feels like a journey into the unknown but also a return home. I can’t tell you the pleasure I get from painting so I know it’s something I need to be doing. So far I’ve made a couple of pieces and have been working on more that haven’t resolved themselves yet but they’re getting there. It takes a while as I’m heading into unknown territory and and it’s scary but so much fun.
I’m currently reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and she talks a lot about fear and how it never goes away, you have to learn to take it on the journey with you, which feels about right at the moment. I’ll be sharing more works with you as they come along. But would love to know what you think.
This work is as yet untitled, I’m still waiting for the right one to come to me.
It’s a group of yellow breasted buntings, they are being eaten to extinction in China. These buntings along with other small songbirds are under immense threat and have been declining for years due to changes in environment and hunting.
I wanted to turn them into something precious that we might start to cherish rather than destroy.
It is collage, acrylic paint and pencil, and is 76 cm by 56 cm.
