22 May There is beauty here
I have to confess that I’m a bit obsessed by wall paper patterns and have always used them in my work.
This is one of my favourites. I made it 3 years ago but had never got it photographed properly, so it was a bout time to show it off properly.
The piece is all hand cut and yes it did take a long time but was definitely worth it.
I can’t quite describe in words what attracts me about patterns, there is just something so pleasing about them. I love how cutting them from maps transforms the pattern into something very different from their mundane beginnings. The map elevates the pattern into something together more poignant and poetic.
This piece is cut from a map of Australia and is 65 x 55 cm. It is framed in a beautiful hand painted white box frame. It costs £5000 and you buy it here
