26 Mar Dove
Time doth work what no man knoweth,
Time doth us the subject prove,
With time still affection groweth
To the faithful turtledove.
Sir Philip Sidney
There is a myth that doves are eternally faithful and if their mate dies they will only drink after dark so they can’t see their dead partner’s reflection. I love this romantic notion of eternal love and that the dove is a symbol of this.
Dove is part of a series I made for the Forming Words exhibition (click here to read more). For this series I took a quote about a bird and used that for my inspiration to create a work. My dove here has lost it’s mate and is therefore destined to never look at it’s reflection again.
