A dissection – after William Morris.
This is a brand new piece that I finished recently. Well actually I cut the 6 pieces that it is made up of several months ago but couldn’t work out what to do with them. The idea I’d had when I first cut them didn’t work. So I put them to one side and forgot about them, then suddenly in a flash I had an idea of what to do. And here you see the end result.
I am continuing on my new layering style and I am very excited to share it with you. I love this piece. It is heavily inspired by a William Morris textile design and is hand cut from a map from Catalonia in Spain. On a trip there a few years ago, I found this beautiful map and I think it works really well with the leaves.
In my mind it is like a pair of lungs, like the capillaries. I love medical drawings, those etchings you get in old medical dictionaries, which is what I was trying to capture here, all be it with plants.
What does it bring to mind to you? I’d love to know, why not leave me a comment below.
Below are some more images of the piece. It will be on show with Flow gallery at Collect at the Saatchi Gallery 9- 12 May. For further information click here.
I’d love to know what you think of this piece, so why don’t you leave a comment below.
Lots of love
