13 Jan New Year, New challenge
I can’t believe this is my first post of 2013. I always find January is a month that I want to hide from the world, it’s cold and dark here in the UK and it feels like a time to look back and look forward and to see what changes I want to make over the coming year.
I have several changes that I am going to make over the year, some small and some very big, some very practical and some more esoteric.
One of the main things that I am going to work on for 2013 is taking my work in a new direction, or rather several new directions. I am been working more or less exclusively on making paper cuts for about 10 years now and I have been feeling for a while that I want to branch out and try some new types of work. I am a huge fan of collage and that is one area of my practice that I have been neglecting that I am very keen to return to. I also want to take my paper cuts and turn them into something more sculptural, made from more robust materials and I also want to do some painting.
At the moment I have lots of ideas in my head, that are buzzing around, but nothing has really settled. I am a little scared but also excited and looking forward to sharing what I get up to. One of my goals is to have an installation ready by October that I will be aiming to show towards the end of the year, I have plans where, which at the moment is still very much up in the air, once it becomes more likely I will of course share.
I am really excited about sharing this journey with you and am looking forward to hearing what you think.
For now I will leave you with some images of some collages I made about 10 or so years ago.
