Paper Sculptures

Capturing The Changing Times
Hand cut map of the USSR, entomological pins, Victorian Entomology box, ink
38 H cm x 29 W cm

It’s made from 5 paper cuts layered up and pinned in place using entomology pins in an antique entomology box. It’s cut from a map of the former USSR from a vintage Polish world atlas.

I’m so fascinated by the way the world is in constant flux. Atlases and maps are a constant record of this. For me it’s the same as a plant collector wanting collect samples of plants and preserve them. I use the atlases as a way of preserving and capturing the the changing times.

It’s a form of poetry

– the expression of feelings and ideas given intensity by the use of distinctive style and rhythm

that’s from the definition of poetry that I found and that about sums up what I’m trying to do here.
