Don’t Call Me Red

Don’t Call Me Red, Acrylic Paint, Ink and Collage on card, 59cm H x 42 cm W, 2017.

I’ve long had a love affair with the colour red. I love everything about it. All the variations of it. The depth and the breadth of it. I love to wear it and paint with it. I’m not sure I’d say it was my favourite colour, I love all the colours. But I definitely default to red without really thinking about it.

I love the way the colours work together in this painting. I use 2 different reds to create the textures. I think these paintings as abstractly figurative. I was wondering what would happen if I took the people out, to go totally abstract but I really couldn’t, the people are really important to me. They make the work and I love using found images and taking them out of context to create a new story for them.

For this painting I used an image from a fashion magazine and blew it several times larger than it was in life. I love how it changes the feeling of the image.

This painting is available to buy, please email for further information.
