If you follow me on social media you might have seen some pics of this new work. I made it a while ago and only just got it properly photographed.
I had the idea in my head for a long time to make a collage like this. It took me a long time to find the courage to make it. I’m not sure why as I loved doing it.
And I’m working on more. It feels the right time for me to make some different works, to expand, but also to return to a way I was working before I went down the paper cutting road.
I’m really enjoying how my experience over the past 10 years or so informs the way I want to work now. I’ve no idea where this is going, which is scary but also exciting.
Watch this space.
The story behind this work is that I was reading an article about the decline of European songbirds and they particularly mentioned the Ortolan Bunting. This gorgeous little bird is in particular danger because in some parts of France it is considered a delicacy. I won’t go into the details how how it is eaten because it’s pretty gross (google Ortolan Bunting and you’ll find all the details if you really want to know). I love these little birds and want to make sure they are seen for more than something to be eaten.
