Capturing The Changing Times

I’ve made something new.

It’s made from 5 paper cuts. Each one cut from a map of the former USSR from a vintage Polish world atlas given to me recently by my lovely friend Yvonna.

The atlas is so beautiful, the colours of the maps are so amazing, it got me really excited and inspired. I love it!

The piece is called ‘Capturing The Changing Times’ and it is framed in a Victorian entomology box and pinned with entomology pins.

I’m so fascinated by the way the world is in constant flux. Atlases and maps are a constant record of this. For me it’s the same as a plant collector wanting collect samples of plants and preserve them. I use the atlases as a way of preserving and capturing the the changing times.

It’s a form of poetry

– the expression of feelings and ideas given intensity by the use of distinctive style and rhythm

that’s from the definition of poetry that I found and that about sums up what I’m trying to do here.
