There is a myth that eagles can look directly at the sun without blinking. The female eagles make their young look at the sun and if they can’t do it they were not considered real eagles and were thrown out of the nest.

Nay if thou be that princely eagle’s bird
Show they descent by gazing ‘gainst the sun.

This is from Henry VI, Part III (Act II, Scene I).

He is cut from a map of London and if looking very princely. Eagles are such elegant birds.
