Up Close and Personal with an Anselm Kiefer

I mentioned previously that the museums in Miami allow you to get very close to the art works and to take photos. I took full advantage of this on a visit to the Bass Museum in Miami Beach. I’d seen the Anselm Kiefer exhibition at the Royal Academy here in London, but you weren’t allowed to get very close to the works or to take pictures. Not so at the Bass!

There was a beautiful Kiefer hanging there with no barriers or security guards, so I took full advantage to get very close. His paintings are so textured that whilst it’s good to see them from a far, to get really close and see all the marks layers of paint is amazing.

Here’s the painting in all it’s glory

And here are some close ups.

Just look at all the sexy paint and all those cracks. Just amazing.  I have no idea how it get’s it to stick to the back ground. It must weigh so much.
