08 Jan Mark Flood at the Rubell Family Collection
One of my favourite galleries in Miami is the Rubell Family Collection. It is in a part of Miami that is undergoing huge change. It was formerly a very run down area but each year we go it becomes more gentrified. It still feels a bit edgy though, I guess the London equivalent would be Hackney or Peckham. The museum is a wonderful space and is usually very quiet. A must see to get a sense of the art scene in Miami.
This year they had a room dedicated to the artist Mark Flood. I’d seen one of his works at Frieze this year and loved it but here they had a whole room. They’re so beautiful. The colours and the texture of the paint are very exciting. They’re like pools and I’d love to dive in. One of things I love about the museums in Miami is that there are very few security guards and no restrictions on how close you can get to a painting. These works really were amazing when you could get up close. I’m always a sucker for lace so these paintings really were so inspiring for me.
Here are a few of my favourites.
