An exciting new commission – Manila #1

In those darkest moments when I’m feeling anxious wondering where my next project will come from I try to remind myself that, it’s not my job to worry about that.  My job is to make great work and the rest will come (easier said than done sometimes).

I always find I the projects that do come are something that I could never imagine.  My most recent commission is a case in point.  I was contacted out of the blue from a Hong Kong based art consultant to make some work for a Hotel in Manila.  That’s not something I could ever have dreamt up, reality is always so much more exciting than I imagine it will be!

The commission was for 4 pieces, 2 for the male spa area and 2 for the female spa area. Above you can see the first of the 4 pieces

This flock of birds is cut from pages of an Oxford Advanced Atlas.  They are maps of SE Asia.  I love these pages as the blues are so beautiful.  There is so many different shades and they contrast so beautifully with the colours of the land.

Below are some detailed photos of the work.  Watch out for the rest of the posts over the next week or so.
